Bryant High School- Even the new teachers want to leave, what kind of environment has she created? How did we let her do all this to our school?”

Comment from Bryant High School Madness

” Westbrook opposed the principal in giving Us to veteran teachers who were doing their job, and he got fired. But they are lying about it and saying he found another job. She is becoming obsessed in having full control but pretty soon is going to backfire her, and wants to get rid of veteran teachers. The UFT does not seem to care…
Principals cannot order Us from the office to APs for certain teachers when they are working hard from her office. She pushed out 9 assistant principals already and is not changing her management style, she is destroying everybody who gets in her way, changing grades, forcing APs to change ratings on teachers observed, not being in compliance with special education legislation, not giving specific pre-observations. Even the new teachers want to leave, what kind of environment has she created? How did we let her do all this to our school?”

It’s time for someone to devise a positive plan to restore Bryant H.S. after the removal of the current administration. A few suggestions:

    1. Appoint a veteran educator and administrator (maybe a retiree) as interim principal for two years to get the school back on track.
    2. Bring back all of the APs who were ousted by the current administration.
    3. Seek out as many as possible of the former Bryant teachers who transferred out, and ask them to transfer back.
    4. Break up the Academies ASAP and restore the departments as they were before “turnaround:”.

One more suggestion- bring back Chris Hartmann as director of the Bryant Theatre Company and have the best faculty show ever in March, 2015 to show the community that the old Bryant is back!

61 percent of the teachers do not trust the principal, and 58 percent do not think she is an effective manager according to the latest survey of 2012-2013. Also, many teachers have answered that they trust her or that she is an effective manager with the intention of not hurting the school with the overall grade.

“Great teachers” can only be great when the school Administration supports their teaching staff not work against them as what is happening in the school I am in now.
